Jinjoo Cho, Korea

Jinjoo Cho, violin, is the First Grand Prize and People's Choice Award winner of the 2006 Montreal International Musical Competition, First Prize and Orchestra Award winner of the 2010 Buenos Aires International Violin Competition, 2nd laureate of 2011 Isang Yun International Music Competition, and the gold medalist of the 2005 Stulberg International String Competition. She has appeared as soloist with The Cleveland Orchestra, the Montreal, Quebec, Winnipeg and Victoria Symphony Orchestras, the Seoul Philharmonic, Kalamazoo Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, CityMusic Cleveland, l’Orchestre de Chambre I Musici de Montreal, and Aspen Concert Orchestra collaborating with such renowned artists as Robert McDuffie, Michael Stern, Peter Oundjian, Kent Nagano, Steven Smith, Anton Nel, Muhai Tang and James Gaffigan.

She has served as an Artist-in-Residence at the Kentucky Center for Performing Arts, and regularly appears on recital series in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. In the recent years, Ms. Cho has successfully given three Canadian recital tours with pianist Louise-Andree Baril. In the past season, she had a tour of Argentina including venues with the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional, and series of recitals organized by Mozarteum Argentino. She regularly performs with pianists Anita Pontremoli, Thomas Hoppe, Hyun Soo Kim and Ae-Ri Loh.

A dedicated orchestral and chamber musician, Jinjoo Cho was a member of the Wo-Men String Quartet. The group coached with Peter Salaff and the Cavani quartet and participated in masterclasses with Donald Weilerstein, Arnold Steinhardt and the Pacifica and Takacs String Quartets. She also formed a duo with cellist Joshua Roman and performed throughout United States. Ms. Cho was the concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra from 03’-06’ and the concertmaster for the New York String Orchestra Seminar for 09’ and 10’. Also a passionate advocate for community outreach and education concerts, she formed a community ‘Starlite’ for artists in January 2011, dedicated to community outreach events and interactive synergy between artists in Korea. She has given countless concerts for education and outreach purposes throughout her career.

A native of Seoul, Republic of Korea, Jinjoo Cho is a graduate of Yewon Art School and the Korean National University of Arts, Pre-College. After her move to the United States in 2002, she graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music Young Artist Program and worked toward a Bachelor's Degree at the Curtis Institute of Music. Ms. Cho has finished her Bachelor’s Degree at Cleveland Institute of Music with Paul Kantor, who has been her teacher and mentor since 2001, and is currently working toward the Master’s Degree in Music at the CIM with Jaime Laredo.
