Finding Ease at the Guitar: A Workshop in the Alexander Technique
This is a practical workshop: you are welcome to bring your guitar or simply observe. The Alexander Technique is a method for recognizing harmful or awkward patterns of movement and learning to undo them, using awareness and directed thinking. We’ll look at some common misuses of the body in guitar playing and ask how a flexible kind of awareness (the zooming in and out that is the theme of this year’s lectures) helps us move more easily at the instrument, with consequent benefits for technique and relief of stage fright.
